Information on aesthetic laser surgeries

Nobody can determine exactly the result of aesthetic laser treatments in advance.

We don’t accomplish test excision from the skin in connection with the aesthetic laser surgery so we can’t judge the exact condition of the deeper layer of skin. The consequence of the test excision would be a permanent formation of scar.

The treatment parameters and the number of treatments for the aesthetic intervention are chosen on the basis of professional proposals and protocols even so the result of the treatments are not predictable since it depends on the response of the treated area and the individual tendency for recovery.

Laser treatments in general

Treatment courses

The frequency and the number of the treatments depends on the size of the treated area, the type and the stage of the disease to be treated, the patient’s tolerance, and the efficacy of the treatment. The type of the patient’s skin, the color of her/his hair and other factors may influence the number of treatments significantly, too.

We will inform our patients on the expected number of the treatments during the preliminary consultation.

Side effects

Side effects are usually rare as a consequence of a laser treatment but complications may occur.

  • formation of scar, very rarely
  • temporary blistering of the skin
  • temporary urticaria-like changes
  • the pigmentation of the skin may be changed temporarily, hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation may occur
  • atrophic changes
  • temporary blushing of the skin around the treated area

Preparations for the treatment

Direct sunlight, solariums, tanning creams and lotions should be avoided 4 weeks prior to treatment and during the treatment period to achieve better results and avoid unwanted side effects. If the skin area to be treated is exposed to direct sunlight we recommend the use of broad spectrum sun protection (minimum SPF is 30).

Clean your skin thoroughly from any traces of make-up, creams and moisturizers on the day of the treatment.

Post-treatment skin care

Don’t scrub or scratch the treated area.
Don’t swim and don’t use Jacuzzi tubs until pigment changes are visible.
Apply antibacterial cream twice a day on the affected skin area untill pigment changes are present.
Don’t shave the affected area in case of peeling.
Don’t pick the peeling skin. Use moisturizers and leave the peeling skin to fall off spontaneously.
If peeling has stopped you can use make-up on your skin.
Ice compress may ease your discomfort.
If any suspicion of infection (flushing, increased sensitivity, suppuration) emerges consult with the medical center immediately.
If the skin area to be treated is exposed to direct sunlight we recommend the use of broad spectrum sun protection (minimum SPF is 30).

Most common questions about the laser treatment

Is the treatment painful?
Laser treatments without local anesthetics are usually unpleasant or painful. You should expect some pain especially when changes in the deeper layers of the skin are treated if no local anesthesia is used. To soothe the pain and increase your comfort a very effective sapphire contact probe is used within the laser unit that cools down the surface of the skin during laser treatment. Due to the cooling of the treated skin patients with reduced pain threshold may be treated without local anesthesia and children may be treated without sedation.
How long does healing take?

You can go on with your regular duties right after the treatment but the use of sun protection products is highly recommended. (minimum SPF is 25)
