The most modern medical laboratory tests are available to provide our patients with exact, causative diagnoses. With the help of these tests, we can determine exactly which of the following agents are causing your symptoms and complaints:
| Causative Agent | Venereal disease |
| Chlamydia trachomatis | Inflammation of the cervix, the uterus, fallopian tubes and urethra; inflammation of the epididymis /testicle, rectum |
| Neisseria gonorrhoeae | Inflammation of the cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, urethra, epididymis/testicle, rectum |
| Mycoplasma (Mycoplasma hominis, Mycoplasma genitalium, Ureaplasma urealyticum) | Inflammation of the vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes and/or urethra; inflammation of the prostate/scrotum. |
| Candida species | Inflammation of the vagina and vulva; inflammation of the penis |
| Trichomonas vaginalis | Inflammation of the vagina and urethra |
| Human papillomavirus (HPV) | Condyloma, genital warts, cervical cancer |
| Herpes simplex virus | Labial and genital herpes |
| Other bacteria | Inflammation of the vagina, prostate and scrotum |
| Anaerobic bacteria | Bacterial vaginosis, inflammation of the prostate |
| HIV | HIV infection, AIDS |
| Treponema pallidum | syphilis |
It is important to be aware that inflammations of the mucous membranes of the urinary-genital organs are not always a result of sexual contact.
The normal, "protective" mucous membrane and the dermal flora can be weakened for a variety of reasons, and bacteria and fungi can establish themselves on these surfaces even in sexually inactive individuals. In these cases, we recommend clarifying the possible underlying medical condition.
In women, the disturbance of the balance of the normal vaginal flora (either too little or too much lactobacillus) can cause complaints, such as burning and itching sensations, as well as discharge with an unpleasant odor.
Other possible causes (allergy, irritation, injury) should also be considered.
Rarely, skin diseases will appear exclusively on the genitalia, while the rest of the skin surface remains inexplicably unaffected.
The examination of the inflammatory symptoms of the genitalia is therefore a multi-step, branching process. Without an exact diagnosis, it is impossible to employ an appropriate, targeted treatment – for this reason, it is imperative that a full examination be completed.
In the case of sexually transmitted diseases (STD), the examination of the partner(s) is also indicated – even if the partner(s) is symptom- and complaint-free; failure to do so can lead to re-infection or a so-called "ping-pong infection".
In addition to physical complaints, STD patients also suffer from guilt and anxiety. Unrealistic fears (infertility, cancer, incurable infections) aggravate the physical condition. These fears must be addressed, the problems and temporary changes in lifestyle also need to be thoroughly discussed with each patient individually. An STD infection can create stress in a relationship, often as a result of inadequate or inaccurate information about the disorder.
Since diseases caused by STD causative agents also affect fertility, their timely and effective treatment is essential. Symptom-poor, asymptomatic and neglected infections can lead to a decrease in the likelihood of conception, and may also cause problems during pregnancy (miscarriage, premature birth), during birth, or even infection of the newborn. On the other hand, it is just as important to dismiss unfounded fears when there is no need to be concerned about the risk of infection of family members and children.
